Gastric Sleeve

With Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG), approximately 60% of the stomach is removed leaving the remaining portion of the stomach in a sleeve-like shape.

Nutrient deficiencies may arise due to:

  • Reduced stomach volume
  • Reduced dietary intake
  • Decreased capacity for digestion due to changes in stomach size
  • Reduced gastric acid (use of PPIs, and reduced volume)
